Thanks to historian Mitch Stone, 'The residence was completed in 1929 by J.T. Chellis. In 1931, it was purchased by William Fl. Cooney, who came to Santa Paula from Fillmore in 1924. Two years later, he purchased the Cash Dry Goods Company store from L. Britt Bowker. The Santa Paula Chronicle described his wife Clara as one of the finest interior decorators in Ventura County.' The Cooney family lived in the home until 1958, when it was first rent and then purchased by the Presbyterian Church for use as the church manse. The Reverend Tom Bousman, minister to the church for 41 years, and his family lived in the home for several decades. In 1946, the Cooneys sold the adjacent lot to the east to architect Robert Raymond and a few years later it became the site of his own home.' Of interest, there have been only three owners of this property and three of listings and sales have been handled by brokers who were members of the Presbyterian Church.many additions include a near-new oversized two-car garage and covered carport.
